Links – I ♥ Icelandic Music

27 Apr

Now if you think that from reading this blog and from the rambling brain dribble that gets published in the Reykjavik Grapevine that I have my finger right on the pulse of the local music scene, then you are very much mistaken. Ok I may be aware of some band Called Sigur Rós and this Gus Gus stuff is… well… ok, but when it comes to truly finding out the latest of what´s happening downtown, then I´m a total novice…

What I actually do is read this blog, I ♥ Icelandic Music to get all my info. This blog is simply a vast treasure trove of videos and live performances of bands, links to news on album releases and info on upcoming gigs both here in Iceland & abroad. If there is anything about an icelandic band worth knowing, then it will be on here. In fact, if I post a video from an icelandic band, chances are this blog has posted it first….

The person who runs this blog is a total Icelandic music obsessive, and the best thing is…. He isn´t even Icelandic! His names is Wim Van Hooste and he´s from Belgium. This is a pic of the lovely man….

To say this man is obsessive about Icelandic music and it´s history is an understatement. Despite living in Belgium, he often comes to Iceland, especially to stock up on Icelandic music. He even goes to Kólaportið, the local flea market, to look for old tattered magazines for interviews on Icelandic Musicians, such as Emiliana torrini, which to be honest is just a little bit above and beyond the call of duty. I mean, I only go there for sweets, fish and perhaps the odd CD from Milli Vanilli.

But he´s always pretty much on the mark with his info. In fact, he seems to be able to announce album release dates before the band themselves are probably aware they´re even putting an album out!

But I can´t stress enough. If you want to know whats happening in Icelandic music-wise at this very moment, then Go to his blog and be amazed, very amazed….
