Sunday Punk film matinee!: Repo Man (1984)

06 Jun

Good afternoon there swineherden!

you will be pleased to know that i´ve done my fair share of partying this weekend and that i am now going to be polite and well-behaved… until my birthday next week. Woot!!

Well as it´s sunday, then that can mean only one thing. Yup we need some good ol´fashioned rockin´and a rollin´, punkin´ and a funkin´movie madness. And today is undoubtedly a class. Alex Cox´s punk masterpiece Repo Man!

If you don´t know about his film already (rolls his eyes) then here it is in a nutshell. Californian punk Otto (Emilio Estevez) is broke and depressed. He falls in with Bud (Harry Dean Stanton) who is a repossession agent or “Repo Man”. Bud then teaches him the ways of the repo men. From there it´s a surreal blend of punk, the CIA, fast cars possibly containing aliens and some torture into the bargain as well.

One of the main features of the film was how Cox is able to accurately portray to the Californian hardcore punk scene of the time. the OST contains bands such as Iggy Pop, Black FLag, The Circle Jerks, Fear and the Plugz

So get a cup of tea, put your feet up and watch the heady delights of Otto stealing some cars and pogoing to proper music!
