Video Dump: Deerhunter “Revival”

08 Oct

I’ve been listening to a bit of the new Deerhunter album, “Halcyon Digest” and it’s not too bad (but not too brilliant). but one of the better songs is the track “revival”. And earlier this week, i found a fan made video for said track…

An interesting juxtaposition of dreamy psychedelic west coast pop and something that looks like a cross between an old ford zombie production line and the SS Hot dog factory in Selfoss. Lots of inflating, pulsing bits of offal and dismembered talking dogs heads. Ok this is rather disturbing.

but that i started thinking, where have i seen this stuff before? then i realised. The fan has taken the footage from the now infamous 1940 film “experiments in the revival of dead organisms”. Says the blurb…

This disturbing film records the successful experiments in the resuscitation of life to dead animals (dogs), as conducted by Dr. S.S. Bryukhonenko at the Institute of Experimental Physiology and Therapy, Voronezh, U.S.S.R. Director: D.I. Yashin. Camera: E.V. Kashina. Narrator: Professor Walter B. Cannon. Introduced by Professor J.B.S. Haldane

Hey kids, Look at what we can do with Science! Woof!!

Oh and here is the source video if you are feeling a bit ghoulish…
